Kosher and Allergy Aware Food Policies

Snacks

A morning and afternoon snack will be provided in each class. Fresh fruit is served twice a day and includes apples, clementines, pears, berries, bananas, watermelon, peaches, and other options by season. The snacks will be dairy or pareve, kosher, and peanut- and tree nut-free.

Lunch

Eating lunch together is a vital part of our program. It provides a chance for children to spend time together in a relaxed social setting. Each child should bring in a dairy/vegetarian, nut-free lunch. We also coordinate an optional hot lunch Mondays-Thursdays. It is provided at an additional fee, and registration is open at the beginning of the school year and again in the second half of the year. Please remember lunchtime should be a positive experience for your child.

Kashrut (Jewish dietary laws)

Acceptable kosher symbols

Acceptable kosher symbols

Due to strict observance of kosher regulations, no home baked items may be brought and served for consumption by others in the class.  Baked items from accepted stores will be permitted. Packaged food must be clearly marked with a kosher symbol such as those pictured here. Plain “K” and are not reliable hechshers (kosher symbols) and are therefore not allowed.  We are happy to help you with finding items.

Baked goods purchased from Moti’s Market, Max’s, Shalom’s, Siena’s, Goldberg’s, and Krispy Kreme in Falls Grove are Kosher.  Prepackaged goods, such as Entenmanns, Sunshine and some Pepperidge Farm are also usually kosher.  This is not an exhaustive list.  Feel free to check with the Director for other kosher labels.
